A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with first degree murder in connection with a shooting that killed two people and wounded a third person in a Gainesville neighborhood.

On Thursday, February 2, shortly before 1:45 a.m., the Alachua County Combined Communication Center received several 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area of 200 NW 3rd Avenue in Gainesville. At the same time, a male victim called 911 to report that he had been shot, according to GPD.

Within a few minutes, GPD officers arrived at the incident location and made contact with the male victim who had sustained gunshot wounds, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Officers approached a residence in the area and observed a second male victim, identified by police as 21-year-old Trayvon Henry Sheppard, who was deceased on the ground. GPD stated that Sheppard had sustained a gunshot wound.

During a search of the residence, officers also located the body of a deceased female victim, identified by police as 33-year-old Brittany Avery-Hoisington. She had also sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

GPD utilized a drone to conduct a grid search of the area in an attempt to locate the shooting suspect. In a social media post, the police department also released video surveillance footage of a male suspect who was observed in the area at the time of the shooting.
