Motorcyclist killed after crashing into car at intersection in Alachua County

A 32-year-old man died on Monday after the motorcycle he was riding struck a car at an intersection in Alachua County.

Shortly after 11:45 a.m., the man was traveling northbound on N Main Street near the intersection of 31st Avenue in Gainesville, according to a social media post from the Gainesville Police Department.

At the same time, a car was heading southbound on N Main Street and attempted to make a left turn onto 31st Avenue. The police department stated that the motorcyclist was unable to avoid a collision, and the motorcycle proceeded to collide with the passenger side of the car.

Bystanders rushed over to the motorcyclist and attempted to render first aid until law enforcement arrived. According to GPD, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

After the accident, the travel lanes on N Main Street were closed in both directions near the intersection of NE 31st Avenue. The lanes were later reopened at 2:45 p.m.

The name of the motorcyclist was not released by the Gainesville Police Department. No further details were provided by GPD and the crash remains under investigation.
