A mixed martial arts (MMA) event benefiting Marion County’s first responders is heading to the Ocala International Airport next weekend.
On Saturday, April 1, Sheltair Aviation will host “Fight or Flight,” the first annual MMA Fight Night event at the Ocala International Airport. The fight octagon will be set up inside Sheltair’s new aircraft hangar, which is located at 1180 SW 60th Avenue in Ocala.
The day will kick off at 7 a.m. with a 5K run/walk on the airport runway. Later in the day, at 6 p.m., fighters from the World Class Fight League will put on a show inside the octagon, and the WCFL Lightweight Championship will be up for grabs in the main event.
During the “Fight or Flight” event, special equipment from the Ocala Police Department, Ocala Fire Rescue, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Marion County Fire Rescue will be on display.
The net proceeds from the event will be donated to the Public Safety Assistance Trust, a 501(c)(3) organization that will distribute the funds to first responders in Marion County who are in need of financial assistance due to life-altering incidents such as natural disasters, job-related injuries, illnesses, or other unfortunate events.
Tickets for the “Fight or Flight” MMA event are available online and range from $30 to $100. Those who are interested in the 5K run/walk can sign up online, and there is a cost of $30 for each participant.
