Citra woman killed, toddler critically injured in Marion County crash

A 44-year-old woman from Citra was killed, and a toddler was critically injured, in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on County Road 318 in Marion County on Monday morning.

At approximately 7:40 a.m., the woman and a two-year-old boy were traveling eastbound in a sedan on County Road 318, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 441, when their vehicle veered left into the oncoming lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

Moments before the crash, an SUV was traveling westbound on County Road 318, near the same intersection. FHP stated that the sedan proceeded to veer directly into the SUV’s path, which resulted in a head-on collision.

Marion County Fire Rescue personnel arrived at the scene of the accident. The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased, and the two-year-old passenger was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition.

The SUV’s driver, a 45-year-old woman from Reddick, sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital for medical treatment.

The names of the drivers involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
