Two people were hospitalized on Saturday evening after shots were fired at an apartment complex in Alachua County.
Shortly before 7:45 p.m., the Gainesville Police Department received reports of a shooting at Sweetwater Apartments located at 3101 NE 15th Street in Gainesville, and officers quickly arrived on scene.
According to GPD, an initial investigation revealed that several individuals had arrived at the apartment complex in a vehicle, and they began shooting at another group of people who returned fire. Two individuals inside the vehicle were struck by bullets during the incident.
The two wounded individuals were dropped off at a nearby hospital, and they were then transferred to UF Health Shands Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The suspect vehicle was later located by police in the Pine Ridge area. One of the shooting suspects had fled from the vehicle on foot. GPD officers and Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies are actively searching for that suspect, according to the police department.
