Two readers weigh in on commercial flights in Ocala/Marion County

Two readers submitted letters to Ocala-News.com to share their thoughts on the topic of bringing commercial flights to Ocala International Airport.

“It would nice to have commercial flights into Ocala. People coming from everywhere have to fly into Orlando, which is one-and-a-half hours away to drive from the airport, plus traffic. They need to get going on making things easier for people. It’s madness that some people don’t want that. They need to vote to get it done,” says Barry Carty, Marion Oaks resident.

“People, when you got fed up with the politics where you were up north, you moved south by the droves. You claimed “Republican Party,” but I wonder how many of you will actually vote that way or vote like you did there? If that’s the case, head back north. We have too many people, more crime, more cars, and crazy drivers than we want, so the same suggestion applies. The loss of beautiful trees and pastures is heart wrenching. I blame greedy city commissioners for not protecting the environment. Regarding airport mania, the airlines are in business to make money. They will not come to an area where there are only a few inconvenienced people, especially if you can drive to Gainesville and hop on a plane. If an airport was important to you, then why did you move here? Same goes for shopping variety,” says Orange Lake resident Jackie White.
