Driver dies after being ejected from SUV in rollover crash

A 39-year-old Williston man died on Thursday after his vehicle overturned on U.S. 27 Alternate in Levy County.

At around 11 a.m., the man was traveling northbound on U.S. 27 Alternate in a 2011 Subaru SUV. When he was approximately one-fourth of a mile south of NE 158th Avenue, he lost control of the vehicle, and it veered onto the center grass median, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the driver attempted to regain control of the SUV, which caused the vehicle to travel onto the east grass shoulder where it began to overturn. As the SUV overturned, it struck a fence and gate, and the man was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital due to injuries that were sustained in the crash.

The name of the driver was not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
