A 30-year-old man was shot and killed in northwest Ocala on Saturday, July 1, and the Ocala Police Department is encouraging anyone with information about the fatal shooting to come forward.
At around 5:35 p.m. on Saturday, a citizen contacted 911 and reported hearing multiple gunshots near the intersection of NW 16th Street and NW 19th Court, according to OPD.
A witness informed OPD that multiple individuals were involved in the shooting. Officers responded to the area and observed shell casings on the ground, but no individuals were located.
Shortly after the reported shooting, a man was dropped off by vehicle at Ocala Fire Rescue Station #1. According to OPD, the man had been shot in the chest, and he was transported to a local hospital where he sadly passed away due to his gunshot wound.
The victim was later identified as Roovens Pierre.
In a social media post, OPD stated that detectives are actively investigating the fatal shooting, and they are seeking the public’s assistance to help bring justice to the affected parties and ensure the safety of the local community.
