Dogs trained by Marion inmates seeking forever homes

After undergoing weeks of obedience training, Marion County Animal Services’ newest class of FIDO Project dogs will be at the Ocala Mall this weekend for a meet-and-greet event.

During the event, which will take place on Saturday, July 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ocala Mall (3711 E Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala), members of the community will be able to meet the following FIDO (Florida Inmates & Dog Obedience) Project dogs that are available for adoption: Crockett, Carmen, Liv, Clue, Fletch, and Munch.

The event was originally scheduled to take place at Mojo’s on 40 (4620 E Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala), but it has been moved to the mall due to expected inclement weather.

According to Animal Services, the eight-week FIDO training program allows select inmates at the Marion Correctional Institution to teach the furry students basic obedience, along with other useful skills, to make the dogs more adoptable.
