School bus rear-ends SUV on State Road 40

A Marion County school bus was involved in an accident on State Road 40 in Ocala late Tuesday afternoon.

At around 4:58 p.m., a school bus and SUV were both traveling westbound on State Road 40 near the intersection of SW 140th Avenue. According to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report, the school bus was directly behind the SUV.

FHP stated that the driver of the SUV, identified in the report as a 76-year-old man from Dunnellon, came to a stop for traffic at the intersection. The school bus was unable to stop in time, and the front of the school bus proceeded to collide with the rear of the SUV.

Both vehicles relocated off the roadway following the accident.

No students were on board the school bus at the time of the collision. The two occupants of the bus – a 56-year-old woman from Dunnellon (driver) and 63-year-old woman from Reddick (passenger) – were not injured, and the SUV’s driver also avoided injury.

The names of the individuals involved in the crash were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
