Hit-and-run driver flees toward Marion County after killing pedestrian near Gainesville, troopers say

(Update: The Florida Highway Patrol stated that as of 3 p.m. on October 1, investigators managed to track down the vehicle involved in this fatal crash. In addition, investigators have identified a person of interest, though that individual’s name was not released by FHP.)

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash near Gainesville early Sunday morning, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers are looking for the driver who fled the scene on U.S. 441 toward Marion County.

At around 3:35 a.m. on Sunday, October 1, a 26-year-old man from Floral City was run over by a vehicle on southbound U.S. 441, just south of SW 104th Avenue, in Alachua County, according to the FHP incident report.

FHP stated that the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries, and the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene on U.S. 441 toward Micanopy/Marion County.

According to troopers, the vehicle that fatally struck the pedestrian is believed to be a 2015 to 2020 dark gray Ford Mustang with lower right front and undercarriage damage.
