Precautionary boil water notice planned for Marion community due to pipe replacement

Due to the planned replacement of a pipe, Marion County Utilities will issue a precautionary boil water notice beginning on Tuesday, December 19 for customers within the Rainbow Lakes Estates community.

The installation of a 1,370-foot new pipe will require crews to completely shut down the water plant serving the Rainbow Lakes Estates community, according to a press release from Marion County.

As a result, the planned precautionary boil water notice on December 19 will be in effect until the 48-hour mandatory testing has been completed and results indicate that the water remains safe to drink.

Customers within Rainbow Lakes Estates are advised to bring water intended for consumption to a rapid boil for at least one minute until this precautionary notice is lifted. As an alternative, bottled water may be used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, or washing dishes.

Any water that is used for laundry, bathing, and showering does not need to be boiled.

According to Marion County Utilities, customers will be notified via emails, interactive community calls, media release, and/or social media once the boil water notice has been lifted and the water has been proven safe to drink per the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s guidelines.

Nancy Jarvis, Marion County Utilities’ business manager, encourages customers to verify that the phone number listed on their account is accurate.

“Our system report for the Rainbow Lakes Estates automated calls showed a majority of the calls went to voicemail, 95 numbers provided by customers for account information were no longer valid, and 75 customers listened to the first portion of the message,” stated Jarvis.
