Marion County firefighters battled a large brush fire on Thursday that threatened homes on SW 139th Lane Road in Marion Oaks.
Shortly before 12 p.m., multiple Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 8300 block of SW 139th Lane Road. A resident in the area had called 911 to report that a brush fire was in her yard, encroaching on her residence, according to MCFR.

As units headed to the scene of the blaze, crew members observed a large column of smoke in the area.

Firefighters soon arrived on scene, and they immediately began attacking the flames.

“Forestry was called for mutual aid and immediately responded with two dozers and one brush truck,” stated MCFR in a social media post.

As Forestry units worked to contain the fire, MCFR crews combated the flames while protecting the nearby structures.

The fire was called under control shortly after 1:45 p.m. MCFR stated that approximately three to five acres were burned in the blaze.

There were no injuries reported.
The cause and origin of the brush fire is currently under investigation, according to Marion County Fire Rescue.
