A 22-year-old man who was attempting to exit Interstate 75 was killed after his pickup truck went off the roadway and struck a tree.
The fatal accident took place at around 12:25 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man, who was from Ocala, was driving northbound on the I-75 exit ramp to State Road 121 at a high rate of speed, according to the report.
As a result, the man failed to negotiate a curve and the pickup truck entered the east grass shoulder. While on the shoulder, the truck struck a tree.
The driver was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital and was pronounced decease on arrival.
