A pilot whose plane’s landing gear malfunctioned was forced to make an emergency landing at the Ocala International Airport on Sunday evening.
At around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, multiple Ocala Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the Ocala International Airport (1770 SW 60th Avenue) after receiving reports that an aircraft had experienced “landing gear failure,” according to OFR.
Upon arrival at the airport’s runway, firefighters observed the small aircraft, which had successfully landed on its belly without further incident.
Several Ocala Fire Rescue units (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Truck, Engine 4, and Battalion Chief 11) remained at the runway to ensure that there were no fire hazards related to the crash.
The remaining OFR units, which included Engines 1 and 6, Rescue 4, Squad 7, and a Safety Officer, were released from the scene.
There were no injuries reported.
