A four-vehicle collision involving three semi-trucks slowed traffic on Interstate 75 for several hours on Thursday afternoon.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, three semi-trucks and an unspecified fourth vehicle were traveling southbound on I-75, near mile marker 386 in Alachua County, at around 11:35 a.m. on Thursday, June 27.
FHP stated that the fourth vehicle was traveling ahead of the semi-trucks when it hydroplaned across the roadway in an eastward direction. The vehicle then struck the center median guardrail before traveling back across the roadway to the west shoulder.
The driver of the closest semi-truck was traveling in the right lane when he observed the single-vehicle crash. He attempted to avoid a collision by moving to the left, which caused a “series of collisions” involving his semi-truck and the two others, according to the report.
When the three semi-trucks came to a final rest, they were blocking all southbound lanes.
It took crews approximately three hours to investigate the scene of the accident and remove debris from the roadway. At around 2:35 p.m., all southbound lanes were reopened.
A trooper noted in the report that the semi-truck drivers involved in the crash – a 45-year-old man from Indianapolis, Indiana; a 30-year-old man from Tampa, Florida; and a 49-year old man from Sparks, Georgia – were not injured.
No further details were provided by FHP regarding the fourth vehicle involved in the crash or its occupants.
