A 27-year-old man died on Sunday afternoon after his car crashed into a semi-truck that was disabled on the shoulder of Interstate 75 in Marion County.

The fatal crash took place on I-75 at around 4:05 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, near mile marker 359.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the car was traveling southbound on I-75 in the outside lane when the driver entered the outside emergency shoulder for unknown reasons.

FHP stated that a disabled tractor-trailer was stopped ahead of the car on the same emergency shoulder, and the front of the car proceeded to collide with the rear of the tractor-trailer.

The driver and sole occupant of the car sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue paramedics.

During their rescue, firefighters and technical rescue specialists worked to lift the tractor-trailer up, while pulling the vehicle from underneath to ensure there were no other occupants in the vehicle. Once completed, they determined there were no other occupants.

The tractor-trailer’s driver, a 63-year-old Clearwater man, was not injured.
