A 43-year-old Ocala woman is facing multiple felony charges after she allegedly stole a computer and DVD player from her friend’s home and sold the devices to two local pawn shops.
On July 21, the female victim contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and reported a theft that had occurred at her home in Belleview. She stated that her Apple computer ($300 value) and DVD player ($50 value) had been stolen while she was on vacation, according to the arrest report.
The victim advised that in late June, she had left her home to be watched by two friends. One of the friends was identified in the report as Robyn Jones.
Shortly after leaving on vacation, the victim stated that Jones and the other friend stopped responding to the victim’s calls, and they both deleted the victim from Facebook. The victim told the deputy that she asked a relative to check on her home, and the relative advised that the Apple computer was missing, according to the report.
An MCSO sergeant investigated the theft and discovered that Jones had allegedly sold the victim’s DVD player to a pawn shop in Belleview for $10. Three days later, Jones allegedly sold the victim’s computer to a pawn shop in Summerfield for $60.
The report stated that the original pawn receipts for the above transactions were located, and the sergeant helped the victim recover the stolen items.
The sergeant was initially unable to locate Jones and noted in the report that she may have left the state of Florida. A warrant was issued for Jones’ arrest, and she was eventually located and arrested on Friday, August 23.
After being transferred to Marion County Jail, Jones was released the same day after posting a $45,000 bond. She is being charged with dealing in stolen property (two counts), fraud – providing false ownership information to a pawn broker (two counts), and grand theft over $300 but less than $5,000.
A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
