State Road 200 signs in Ocala

A series of single lane closures will be in effect on State Road 200 this week as construction crews continue making upgrades to improve pedestrian safety and reduce speeding on the roadway.

The Florida Department of Transportation is advising motorists that both northeast-bound and southwest-bound lanes on SR 200, from just east of Interstate 75 (I-75) at Southwest 36th Avenue to Southwest 34th Avenue, will be closed beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, January 5.

Those closures will be in effect through Saturday, January 11 at 4 p.m.

Additionally, there will be closures along the same stretch from 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, through 6 a.m. on Sunday, January 12.

All of the closures will be in effect to allow crews to continue their work to pour concrete curbs, sidewalks, and install planters along the roadway.

The measures are part of FDOT project 439234-1, which calls for the resurfacing of SR 200 and the implementation of safety and operational enhancements on the roadway, from I-75 to U.S. 441/S Pine Avenue.

The project will enhance safety by replacing portions of the multi-directional center lane with a raised concrete median and adding segmented left-turn lanes throughout the corridor. Additionally, pedestrian hybrid beacons are being installed at several locations on the roadway.

The upgrades are projected to reduce vehicle conflict points and encourage safer driving speeds on the roadway, which has been an area of concern for the Ocala Police Department.
