A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck and killed on Tuesday evening while walking along State Road 40 in Ocala, marking at least the fifth pedestrian fatality in Marion County over the last 25 days.
The fatal accident took place near the intersection of SR 40 and NW 41st Avenue in Ocala at around 11:45 p.m.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 73-year-old man was walking in an unknown direction within the inside, eastbound lane of SR 40.
A 42-year-old Ocala man driving a pickup truck eastbound on the roadway did not observe the pedestrian, causing the front end of his vehicle to collide with the man.
The pedestrian, who was from Ocala, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.
The accident is one of at least five fatal accidents involving pedestrians that have occurred in Marion County in the last 25 days.
On February 10, a pedestrian was struck while attempting to cross W Silver Springs Boulevard.
On February 8, a man was struck and killed on Interstate 75 in Marion County after he parked his vehicle on the side of the highway and began walking in and out of traffic.
