Marion County officials cut the ribbon on a new fire station in Citra this week.
On Monday, Marion County Fire Rescue opened Citra Station #2 at 2189 NE 180th Lane. The new fire station replaces the previous fire station that was situated at the same site on NE 180th Lane.

“We’re excited to announce the grand opening of Marion County Fire Rescue Station #2, a vital step in enhancing emergency response times and services for Citra and surrounding communities! A huge thank you to the Citra Improvement Society for their generous donation of land and for being an incredible partner in our mission to serve this area. Your commitment to the community truly makes a difference,” reads a partial statement from MCFR.
The new fire station was constructed by CPPI Construction, which is based in North Central Florida. The project was funded by the penny sales tax.
CPPI broke ground on the facility last March. According to MCFR, the fire station is approximately 4,386 square feet in size. It has three bays to store vehicles and equipment and also features over 3,700 square feet of living quarters.

Officials say the new station will have a larger capacity, will provide a healthier work environment for firefighters, and will help the firefighters better serve the growing community of Citra.
The new fire station also features a “Safe Haven Baby Box” for parents who wish to surrender a baby (up to seven days after birth) safely, and without repercussions.
