The United States Navy announced that it will not conduct any live bomb testing within the Ocala National Forest this week.
The Navy will not test any bombs at the Pinecastle Range Complex through May 11, according to a statement from the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville.
In recent weeks, the Ocala National Forest has experienced several wildfires. Most of those wildfires have been caused by lightning strikes, according to the United States Forest Service in Florida.
In February, a bomb that missed its target led to a multi-acre fire within the forest.
According to the National Integrated Drought Information System, over 53% of Marion County is still under extreme drought conditions. The rest of the county is either classified as “severe drought” (38.4%), or “moderate drought” (8.43%).
