An Ocala man, who allegedly broke into his brother’s home after “hearing voices,” was arrested after leading Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a foot chase.
On Monday, June 9, MCSO deputies responded to a home located on SW 13th Place in Marion County after receiving reports of a residential burglary. Upon arrival, they made contact with a male victim who advised that he was at work when his home security provider notified him that someone had broken into his residence, according to the arrest report.
The victim told deputies that he reviewed video surveillance footage, which allegedly showed his brother, 33-year-old Jared Allen Crisp, “forcing” his way into the victim’s home via the front door. One of the deputies noted in the report that Crisp was observed on the footage walking partially through the front door before “turning around and making an abrupt exit.”
The report mentioned that Crisp lived in an old trailer located on the victim’s property.
When the victim arrived at his home, he noticed that the front door and frame had sustained damage during the break-in. Crisp fled from the incident location prior to the arrival of law enforcement, according to the report.
A deputy located Crisp walking northbound in the 600 block of NW 125th Avenue. He was allegedly carrying a long knife, and he ran across a nearby property after spotting the deputy. According to the report, a hat and a six-inch knife were recovered from the area, and the knife had Crisp’s first name written on the handle.
Deputies soon located Crisp in the 400 block of NW 117th Court, and he was detained in handcuffs following a brief foot chase.
After being read his Miranda rights, Crisp told deputies that he had been “hearing voices,” according to the report. He allegedly admitted to breaking into the victim’s home to look for a firearm in order to “kill the voices.”
When the victim’s house alarm sounded, Crisp allegedly told investigators that he “ran back out.” According to the report, Crisp stated that he ran away from the incident location when he heard sirens from the approaching deputies.
During the post-Miranda interview, Crisp told law enforcement that the recovered knife belonged to him, and he added that he carries it for protection, according to the report.
Crisp was placed under arrest and booked into Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $6,000 bond. He is being charged with unarmed burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and resisting a law enforcement officer without violence.
A court date for Crisp has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
