A teen motorcyclist was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle being driven by an 82-year-old woman on State Road 40 in Ocala on Thursday afternoon.
The fatal accident took place near the intersection of SR 40 and NW 68th Avenue on Thursday, June 26, at around 3:30 p.m.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, an elderly woman from Ocala was driving her SUV northbound on SW 67th Avenue Road, crossing SR 40.
At the same time, a 19-year-old man from Crystal River was riding a motorcycle west on SR 40, approaching the roadway’s intersection with NW 68th Avenue Road.
FHP reports that the elderly woman “failed to yield the right of way” to the motorcycle.

After the crash, debris from the incident collided with a third vehicle.

According to FHP, the elderly woman suffered minor injuries and her passenger, an 81-year-old Ocala man, also suffered minor injuries. Both individuals were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
The motorcyclist was killed as a result of his injuries. The report notes that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The accident caused long delays along State Road 40, backing up traffic for an extended period of time.

No additional details were provided in the report by FHP.
