A Florida-based optometry company has terminated employees at 43 locations across the state of Florida, including multiple individuals in Marion County, Sumter County, and Lake County, citing the loss of a contract.
Global Care Optometry filed the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Notice with the Florida Department of Commerce on Tuesday, July 1.
“Based on the best information available at this time, we anticipate that up to 116 employees across 43 Florida locations will be separated from the company,” reads the letter. The job losses are “due to a contract loss.”
At least two employees will be terminated each from stores in Ocala, Lady Lake, and Eustis. In Ocala, the company is situated inside of the Eyeglass World located at 2411 SW College Road.
The company, which is based in Tampa, says it expects to commence separations on July 30 and continue them again on August 30 and September 5.
“All affected employees have been or are notified of their employment terminations at least 60 days before their terminations are scheduled to occur,” reads the statement.
According to its website, Global Care Optometry was founded by Dr. Kevin G. Brooks in 2005. At the time, the company opened three different offices in Florida. Since then, the organization has grown to over 50 locations across five states.
The company offers eyeglass and contact lens examinations, retinal photography, dry eye therapy, and a variety of other services.
