Despite an extended rain delay in the hours leading up to Ocala’s fireworks show at Patriotic Skies, the residents that braved the weather enjoyed a spectacular display.

Held at Ocala’s Tuscawilla Park (800 Sanchez Avenue) on July 4, much of Patriotic Skies was delayed until 9 p.m. after lightning passed through the area during the event.

As a result of the delay, entertainment from singers Emma Forgette and Bryce Mauldin, which was scheduled to take place from 6:15 p.m. to 9 p.m., was suspended when the conditions worsened.

In a statement released on Sunday, the city said it was “grateful” for the residents who attended the event.

“Thank you to everyone who chose to spend Independence Day with the City of Ocala. Despite weather delays, we were grateful to see so many of you come out and celebrate with us,” reads a statement posted by the city to social media.

After the worst of the weather passed, the fireworks, which were sponsored by Ocala Main Street, were shot over Tuscawilla Park.

“We had a rough run at it last night with all the storms, but we were still able to get fireworks. Thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly to put the event on,” reads part of a statement from Ocala Mayor Ben Marciano.
