An Ocala man who was tasered by a deputy while allegedly attempting to run from a traffic stop is facing additional drug possession charges after fentanyl and cocaine were reportedly found inside his car.

On Friday, July 18, at around 11:45 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy allegedly observed a driver, later identified as 32-year-old Quintin Fitzgerald Holt, Jr., who was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the arrest report.

The deputy noted in the report that Holt’s car, a Buick sedan, turned southbound onto NW Gainesville Road from U.S. Highway 316. The deputy caught up to the car and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the 7600 block of NW Gainesville Road.

Holt allegedly continued driving before bringing his car to a stop in the 6800 block of NW Gainesville Road. The deputy made contact with Holt, who appeared “irritated and nervous” while handing over his driver’s license, according to the report.

When the deputy returned to the MCSO patrol vehicle to check the validity of Holt’s driver’s license, Holt allegedly exited his car, looked around, and then “suddenly took off on foot.” The report stated that the deputy chased after Holt and deployed an agency-issued Taser, which struck him. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Holt allegedly told the deputy that he ran from the traffic stop because of a warrant that had been issued. According to the report, Holt had an active warrant out of Citrus County for violation of probation related to several drug possession charges.

During a search of Holt’s car, the deputy reportedly found a sandwich baggie filled with “multiple rocks” that field-tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl. The substance weighed a total of 2.5 grams, according to the report.

After being read his Miranda rights, Holt refused to speak with the deputy.

Holt was placed under arrest and booked into Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with possession of fentanyl, possession of cocaine, and resisting an officer without violence.

Jail records show that Holt is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19.
