A fire tore through an abandoned home in Belleview on Wednesday.

Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 400 block of SE 155th Street in Belleview on Wednesday, August 6, at around 6:20 a.m. after receiving reports of a residential structure fire.

The 911 caller reported that smoke and flames were emanating from the back of the house and that neighbors had advised that the home was abandoned.

Belleview Station #18 arrived first on the scene at around 6:23 a.m. to find a home approximately 50% involved in flames. Firefighters from multiple other stations arrived shortly thereafter and began deploying hoselines and aggressively attacking the fire.

Primary and secondary searches of the structure confirmed that no individuals were inside the building at the time of the fire.

After their searches, MCFR crews created ventilation to remove heat and smoke from the scene.

The fire was successfully brought under control at around 6:33 a.m., according to MCFR.

No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
