A 34-year-old Ocala man was arrested following an argument with his girlfriend after he allegedly slammed her head against a wall and choked her with the collar of her shirt.

On Tuesday, at around 1:55 p.m., a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a local residence after receiving reports of an argument that turned physical. Upon arrival, the victim advised that her boyfriend, Nathan James Fruth, had “nearly killed her,” according to the arrest report.

The victim told the deputy that she had gotten into an argument with Fruth inside the home, near the living room. The report stated that the verbal altercation was over the victim “being emotional” about a possible loss of employment.

According to the victim’s statement, Fruth “began yelling and cursing” at her. The victim then told Fruth to “calm down” before asking him to leave the home, which escalated the situation.

Fruth allegedly slammed the victim’s head against a wall. The victim further alleged that Fruth grabbed her by the neck, “cracked” her head against the floor, and then used her shirt collar to choke her.

In the report, the deputy noted that the victim had a laceration on her head.

Fruth was at the incident location and made contact with the deputy. He initially advised that the victim “put her hands on him” prior to contacting law enforcement, though he later claimed that “no one got physical,” according to the report.

During an interview, Fruth alleged told the deputy, “It’s only so much you going to deal with somebody punching you in the face about a disagreement.” The report mentioned that Fruth did not appear to have any injuries.

While speaking with the deputy, Fruth allegedly advised that “women think they can put their hand on you and don’t expect you to do nothing.” The deputy then asked if this is what had happened with the victim, and Fruth allegedly responded by stating, “No, I was the aggressor,” according to the report.

The deputy stated in the report that the victim’s story “remained the same” while Fruth’s story “changed several times before admitting he was the aggressor.”

Fruth was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond. He is being charged with domestic battery by strangulation.

A court date for Fruth has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
