A deputy-involved shooting in north Marion County early Friday morning began with a car chase and ended when a suspect allegedly refused to get out of his vehicle and attempted to run over a law enforcement official.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in Reddick at around 2:45 a.m. on Friday, September 5, in response to a call about a suspicious person.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a vehicle that was recklessly driving away from the residence, according to a statement issued by MCSO.
Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop but were unsuccessful when the driver refused to stop. After a vehicle pursuit, the suspect was stopped on NW Gainesville Road, just north of Highway 329.
According to MCSO, the individual again refused to exit the vehicle. Instead, the suspect allegedly attempted to run over a deputy in an effort to flee again.
At that point, another deputy shot the suspect. The car continued at a slow rate of speed before it was brought to a final stop in the 12600 block of N Highway 441, according to MCSO.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been notified and is investigating the shooting.
