An elderly Ocala man was killed and four other individuals were critically injured after a head-on crash between two vehicles, less than 24 hours after a separate head-on collision in Marion County killed another local man.
The fatal accident took place near the intersection of SW 49th Avenue and SW 117th Place in south Ocala at around 11:10 p.m. on Saturday, October 11.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 35-year-old man from Ocala was driving a sedan southbound on SW 49th Avenue, just south of SW 117th Place.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed over the center lane and into the northbound lane of traffic.
After crossing the center lane, the vehicle crashed head-on with another sedan being driven by a 70-year-old Ocala man.
After the accident, the 70-year-old driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger, a 31-year-old Ocala man, was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The other driver was also critically injured in the accident. His passengers, a 22-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale and an 18-year-old man, both sustained serious injuries in the crash.
The report notes that all of the individuals involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
No further details have been provided by authorities.
The incident occurred less than 24 hours after a Belleview man was killed in a head-on collision in Marion County.
