An Ocala mother who is serving a two-year sentence for having sex with her then-15-year-old stepson has had her nursing license revoked by the state, just weeks after the boy’s father filed for divorce.
The Florida Department of Health revoked the nursing license of Alexis Yates on December 18 after a hearing between the Board of Nursing and Yates’ attorney several weeks prior. The final order for revocation was documented by the FDOH on Wednesday, December 31.
According to the final order, the Board of Nursing held a final meeting on the matter on October 9, 2025. Yates, who was represented by an attorney, did not dispute any of the facts contained in the administrative complaint calling for emergency actions against her license.
In April, state health officials issued an emergency order of suspension for Yates’ nursing license. That order specified the standard expected from nurses in the state.
“Nurses are placed in a position of trust; therefore, it is imperative that they demonstrate good judgment and good moral character. Ms. Yates’ decision to engage in sexual activity with a minor child and/or her decision to allow a child to engage her in oral and penetrative sex indicates that she lacks the good judgment and moral character necessary to be a registered nurse,” reads the state’s order from April.
During the October meeting, the Board of Nursing determined that Yates’ conviction was enough to merit revocation of her license. The department also withdrew a motion to assess costs.

The former nurse was caught having sex with her stepson by her husband in July 2024. In the weeks following that incident, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip that a woman, later identified as Yates, had engaged in sexual activity with her husband’s biological son.
In November 2024, Yates was arrested on a charge of sexual battery of a minor. According to Yates’ arrest report, several of the victim’s relatives discouraged him from disclosing what allegedly occurred.
In December 2024, Yates originally pled not guilty to the charge. After months of litigation, including depositions and dozens of court filings, Yates changed her plea in August 2025.
In September 2025, Yates was sentenced to two years in prison for lewd and lascivious battery of her stepson, a reduced charge from the original charge of sexual battery. She was taken into custody on September 16, 2025.
Last month, Marion County court records show that Yates’ husband filed for divorce.
According to the certificate of service filed with the FDOH’s revocation order and Marion County Jail records, Yates was transferred to the Florida Women’s Reception Center in Ocala on October 9, 2025. That center differs from a typical, single-purpose prison in that it is a multifunctional facility designed for assessment, specific treatment (mental health), and specialized programs.
