A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed while attempting to cross County Road 484 on Sunday evening.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred near the intersection of SE 47th Avenue and CR 484 in Belleview at around 8:35 p.m. on Sunday, February 8.
A 47-year-old Ocklawaha woman was driving a vehicle eastbound in the left lane of CR 484 when the pedestrian attempted to cross the eastbound lanes, walking in a northerly direction.
The driver reported that she was unable to see the pedestrian, resulting in the front of her vehicle colliding with him. Following the impact, the driver brought the vehicle to a controlled stop on the grass median.
Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital as a trauma alert. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital at 9:23 p.m.
Investigators noted damage to the front of the vehicle and debris on the grass median, though no skid marks were observed on the roadway. A witness at the scene confirmed that the pedestrian was crossing the eastbound lanes when the collision occurred in the left lane.
The driver was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the fatality.
