As construction of South Marion High School progresses rapidly in southwest Ocala, the district is looking to staff the massive 363,000-square-foot campus.

Marion County Public Schools has announced that recruitment for both instructional and non-instructional positions is set to begin this month in anticipation of the school’s scheduled opening in August.

South Marion High School, which is the first high school built in the district since 2003, is located on a 115-acre site at 1350 SW 165th Street.

Applications for non-instructional roles, which include various support and operational staff, are slated to open on Monday, February 16. This follows the opening of applications for instructional positions, which were made available to candidates beginning February 9.

When complete, the facility will initially accommodate 2,011 students across 61 classrooms and 20 specialized labs. In addition to traditional academics, South Marion High will offer unique programs in artificial intelligence, avionics, digital cinema production, and agribusiness.

The campus is also designed to be a hub for student life and community events, featuring a 2,000-seat stadium for football and track, a 1,332-seat gymnasium, an 800-seat performing arts auditorium, and a cafeteria with outdoor seating for nearly 900 students.

Construction of the new school is being managed by Wharton-Smith, Inc., who won the contract for the facility in August 2024. Officials broke ground on the project in late 2024.

As of last month, the site remains on track for the planned August debut.
