Friends and family are mourning the loss of 38-year-old Ralph Templeman, a beloved softball teammate who lost his battle in the intensive care unit and passed away this week.
Templeman’s passing comes after a tragic incident at a local gas station on Monday evening that left him in critical condition and on life support.
During that incident, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies were observed investigating a taped-off scene at the BP gas station located at 3101 SE Highway 484.
While official details regarding the nature of the incident have been scarce, no details have been released on the nature of Templeman’s injuries.
Although Ocala-News.com has reached out to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office twice for confirmation regarding this incident since Monday, no additional details have been released by law enforcement.
Following the incident, Templeman was transported to a local intensive care unit. His sister, Bernadette Templeman, shared updates on social media, initially asking for prayers while her brother remained in critical but stable condition.
However, on Thursday, March 5, she informed friends and family that Templeman had failed two brain function tests. Under Florida law, if two physicians determine a patient is brain dead, that individual can be removed from life support.
Templeman was a well-known figure in the local sports community, with many friends taking to social media to share memories of playing softball with him. Teammates and friends described him as having a unique ability to make people laugh and a genuine soul that uplifted others during dark times. One friend noted that Templeman always made a point to check in on others and offer words of encouragement, regardless of his own challenges.

The fundraiser, which aims to help the family with funeral and memorial expenses, noted that Templeman passed away due to mental health challenges.
Templeman’s sister expressed her heartbreak in her final update, stating that the outcome was one the family struggled to come to terms with but noting that her brother is now in a “better, more beautiful place.”
