A 21-year-old Ocala man had to be transported to a local hospital this morning after he experienced a medical episode, lost control of his vehicle, and crashed into a school bus carrying over two dozen students.
The accident took place near the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and SE 176th Street on Monday at around 9:02 a.m.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the 21-year-old man from Ocala was driving a sedan southbound on U.S. Highway 441, approaching the roadway’s intersection with SE 176th Street.
The driver experienced a medical episode and swerved into the left turn lane, where a school bus was stopped at a red light. As a result, the sedan struck the bus and both vehicles ended up in the grass shoulder.
Approximately 27 students were onboard the school bus at the time of the accident. According to FHP, two students and the driver of the sedan were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the bus, a 66-year-old woman from Ocala, was not injured in the crash.
The incident comes just two weeks after another driver was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run involving a stopped Marion County school bus.
