The Florida Department of Health is moving to revoke the license of an Ocala athletic trainer over a year after he was cleared of felony charges, with the state citing the man’s battle with anxiety and stress caused by the previously dropped allegations.
On March 26, 2025, Danio, who was 55 years old at the time, was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of child pornography. He was detained for two days at the Marion County Jail until he bonded out on March 27, 2025.
Less than one month after he was arrested, all of the charges against Danio were dropped and the case was closed in late April 2025.
In its decision to drop the charges, the state prosecutor indicated that there was a small “likelihood of conviction” at trial.
Last May, just a couple weeks after Danio was cleared of all of the charges, the state issued an emergency order to suspend his license to practice athletic training.
Over two months after that suspension was implemented, on July 28, 2025, Danio underwent a state-ordered evaluation with two doctors.
After that evaluation, Danio was diagnosed with anxiety disorder, chronic adjustment disorder with mixed emotional and behavioral features, and mixed personality features, according to the administrative complaint filed by the Florida Department of Health.
Last month, the Board of Athletic Training petitioned the state to either permanently revoke or restrict the practice of Danio’s license.
The order, which was signed on April 21, also calls for the possibility of an administrative fine or other punitive measures to be levied against Danio.
