The United States Navy has scheduled a series of aviation and ground training exercises this week at the Pinecastle Range Complex within the Ocala National Forest, prompting federal officials to activate an expanded public safety perimeter.

The military training operations are scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, and Wednesday, May 20, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on both nights.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the exercises will utilize military helicopters and involve the deployment of “inert” ordnance, which contains no explosives.

A strict safety perimeter has been established around the Pinecastle Range Complex, and members of the public are explicitly prohibited from entering the zone during active operational hours. The restriction applies to individuals traveling on foot, by bicycle, and in any motorized vehicle.

In addition to the perimeter closure, motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution when driving through the Ocala National Forest and the surrounding residential communities. The military activity, particularly low-flying helicopters, can startle local wildlife and temporarily displace animals from their natural habitats onto nearby roadways.

Forest officials advise homeowners living near the forest boundary to secure any outdoor trash cans, pet food, or other attractants that might draw displaced wildlife onto their properties. Residents are reminded to remain constantly mindful of larger native species, such as Florida black bears, and to practice “BearWise” safety measures around their neighborhoods.

Due to the nature of the low-level aviation exercises, residents in the vicinity of the forest may experience increased noise levels during the designated evening hours. The Navy requests that any Pinecastle-related noise complaints be submitted directly to authorities via email at [email protected].
