A pizzeria in Salt Springs was forced to temporarily close its doors after a health inspection cited the facility for over a dozen violations.

Salt Springs Pizza, which is located at 14100 U.S. Hwy 19 in Salt Springs, was forced to temporarily close on Thursday, May 14, after failing a health inspection conducted by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

According to a report filed by the organization, the restaurant was cited for approximately 16 violations, including one considered “high priority.” That high priority violation was for ham that was not being stored at the appropriate temperature.

The pizzeria was also sited for multiple “intermediate priority” violations, including read-to-eat food made onsite being held more than 24 hours without markings.

In total, the restaurant was cited for five violations related to food contact, two others for improperly marked containers, and several more for minor offenses.

The closure comes in contrast with similar inspections in the past, when state inspectors have demonstrated the need for a higher violation threshold to close a facility.
