An Ocala man died after his vehicle overturned on Maricamp Road on Saturday afternoon, marking at least the ninth motorcycle fatality in Marion County this year.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, near the intersection of Maricamp Road and Locust Place in Marion County.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcycle was traveling westbound in the outside lane of Maricamp Road.
For reasons not detailed in the preliminary report, the motorcycle overturned onto its left side and continued traveling westbound before coming to a final rest in the outside lane.
The driver of the motorcycle, identified as a 68-year-old man from Ocala, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The incident is currently being investigated by FHP Crash Investigator Trooper Hatch and Homicide Investigator Corporal Ball.
The incident joins at least 34 fatalities that have occurred as a result of accidents on Marion County roadways this year. That includes at least 8 motorcyclists who have lost their lives prior to Saturday.
In 2025, state records show that Marion County recorded approximately 22 motorcycle fatalities. In 2024, there were 13 fatalities reported.
