The Silver River Museum is inviting the public to step back into the gangster era this week with a special presentation on the infamous Ma Barker House FBI shootout.
The upcoming talk is part of the 2026 Summer Speakers Series and will take place on Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m.
Terry Turner, a Marion County Parks Tour Guide, will lead the discussion on the historic 1935 shootout between federal agents and the Barker gang at Lake Weir.
During the presentation, Turner will share the story of how the dramatic events unfolded during what is considered one of the last great episodes of the gangster era. Turner will also provide attendees with information on how to take tours of the historic site.
The presentation is free to attend, though standard state park admission rates will still apply. Seating for the event is available on a first-come basis.
The Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center, which operates in partnership with Marion County Public Schools, is located within the Silver Springs State Park at 1445 NE 58th Avenue in Ocala.
