A historic park in Ocala will host Pedro Zepeda, a master folk artist from the Seminole Tribe of Florida, this week for its Summer Nights Lecture Series.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, June 25. The free program takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fort King National Historic Landmark, located at 3925 E. Fort King Street, and is open to attendees aged 13 and older.
Zepeda will present a lecture entitled “Seminoles on the Frontier,” during which he will provide an introduction to Seminole self-identity and the tribe’s historical role in the southeastern United States frontier history.
Zepeda, a recipient of the 2025 Florida Folk Heritage Award, is an expert in traditional Seminole arts who has focused much of his career on the art of dugout canoe carving. He previously served as the Traditional Arts Coordinator at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation and works as a cultural advocate and educator.
