Marion County is invited to step out and show support for those affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder during a special 2.2-mile awareness walk this weekend.
In observance of National PTSD Awareness Month, the walk will take place on Saturday, June 27, at the McPherson Complex (601 SE 25th Avenue, Ocala). The event will kick off at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 10:30 a.m.
The location differs from a previous announcement by Ocala-News.com, which incorrectly listed Tuscawilla Park as the venue.
PTSD affects millions of people of all ages, including veterans, first responders, and survivors of trauma. The walk is a chance to raise awareness, show solidarity, and promote healing for individuals and families impacted by trauma, according to the county. By learning more about the condition and encouraging open conversations, organizers hope to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and help those affected feel seen, heard, and supported.
The gathering will feature a variety of mental health resources aimed at educating the community and highlighting local assistance available to those in need.
To further back the cause, Marion County is currently selling quality dry-fit t-shirts ranging from $26 to $30. All proceeds from the apparel sales will directly benefit local organizations that provide vital assistance to Hometown Heroes living with PTSD. Anyone interested in purchasing a shirt ahead of the walk can do so by visiting the Mission 1776 website.
