A 29-year-old Ocala man was arrested for aggravated assault after he allegedly pointed a gun at his grandmother during an argument over a legal name change.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a local residence on Saturday, June 27, 2026, regarding a verbal domestic disturbance involving a female victim and her grandson, Jimmy Jaquan Harvin, according to the arrest report.
The altercation reportedly began when Harvin became upset about the victim legally changing her name, since he allegedly believed that it would negatively affect a juvenile family member.
According to the victim, the incident escalated when Harvin reached into his backpack, removed a handgun, and pointed the weapon directly at her. Harvin allegedly waved the firearm repeatedly and told his grandmother he would “take her out.”
A responding deputy noted in the report that the victim appeared to be in shock and in fear following the confrontation. A juvenile, who was sitting in a vehicle parked in the home’s garage during the incident, told law enforcement that they witnessed Harvin point the handgun and threaten the victim.
When authorities arrived on the scene, a deputy utilized a patrol vehicle’s public address system to instruct Harvin to exit the residence. After Harvin refused multiple lawful verbal commands, several deputies approached and apprehended him, according to the report.
While being placed into the back of a patrol vehicle, Harvin reportedly continued to resist deputies. The report stated that he refused commands to enter the car and repeatedly placed his foot outside the vehicle to prevent the rear door from closing.
Harvin was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where he remains in custody without bond. He is being charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and resisting an officer, which is a misdemeanor.
Jail records show that Harvin is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28.
