David Glenn Smith, 80, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026. Born on March 20, 1946, in Charleston, South Carolina, Glenn lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his career, and the teams he proudly cheered on.
A graduate of Ocala High School’s Class of 1965, Glenn built a successful career in banking that spanned decades. He began at Commercial Bank and Trust before continuing as a respected loan officer with SunTrust Bank. Known for his professionalism, integrity, and willingness to help others, he built lasting relationships with customers and coworkers alike.
Above every accomplishment, Glenn’s greatest pride was his family. He shared 58 wonderful years with the love of his life, his beloved wife, Susan Smith. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and traditions that will continue for generations. He was a devoted husband, a proud father to his son, Glenn Jr., and an adoring grandfather to Owen and Ashton Smith. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with the people he loved most.
Glenn was a true sports fan through and through. Whether watching the Florida Gators take the field on Saturday or cheering for his South Carolina Gamecocks, he rarely missed a game. During golf season, he was just as happy walking the fairways as he was watching the pros, enjoying the camaraderie, competition, and stories that came with the game. Win or lose, Glenn was always ready with a smile, a joke, and plenty of good-natured commentary.
His quick wit and wonderful sense of humor made every gathering brighter. Family holidays, football Saturdays, golf outings, and simple afternoons spent together became treasured traditions because Glenn believed life was meant to be shared with those you love.
Those who knew Glenn will remember a man whose loyalty never wavered, whose laugh was contagious, and whose greatest victories were measured not by trophies or scores, but by the love of his family and the friendships he built throughout his life.
Though the final whistle has blown, Glenn’s legacy of love, laughter, tradition, and unwavering support for his family will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
