Laura Platt, age 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at 11:39 AM, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family.
Born on September 9, 1953, in Franklin, Indiana; Laura was the cherished daughter of the late Harry and Mildred Harter. It was in her early years that she developed the kindness, grace, and resilient spirit that would define her entire life.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents. Their memory remained an important part of her life and now she is reunited with them in eternal rest.
For 54 beautiful years, Laura was the beloved wife and steadfast partner of Richard Platt Jr. As a dedicated military spouse, she navigated the unique challenges and adventures of military life with unwavering strength. She possessed the rare gift of making any house feel like a home, creating a safe, welcoming, and nurturing haven for her family wherever their journey took them.
Above all, Laura’s greatest joy and proudest achievement was her family. She was a deeply devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who poured her heart into raising and supporting those she loved. Her guidance, warmth, and unconditional love shaped generations.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Platt Jr.; their three children, Richard Platt (Stephanie), Lisa Gabriel (Roman), and Katie Costa (Joel); and three siblings, Butch (Olga), Forrest (Ginny), and Tammy (Paul). She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members who will miss her dearly; including her beloved toy poodle, Charlie.
Laura’s beautiful legacy lives on through her seven grandchildren (Jordan, Ryanne, Kyle, Laura, Tyler, Juli, Liam), seven great-grandchildren (Gabriel, Viktor, Cameron, Peyton, Penelope, Raylen, Nova) of each of whom she adored beyond measure.
Laura will be remembered as a beacon of love, strength, and devotion. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and the many lives she touched.
A memorial service celebrating Laura’s exceptional life will be held on August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Wings of Faith Fellowship in Ocala, FL. We invite all who knew and loved Laura to join us in honoring her memory. Please join us for light refreshments afterward to share stories and celebrate her legacy together.
