The City of Ocala announced on June 11 that it plans to allocate over $400,000 from the CARES Act to support its COVID-19 recovery.
The announcement was made on the city’s social media channels this past week. According to a Facebook post, Ocala plans to administer $422,871 in new funding to recovery activities including “microenterprises,” public services, broadband infrastructure, and educational programs targeted to students from low and moderate income families who may have fallen behind in their education.
“The City of Ocala updated the Citizen Participation Plan to provide opportunities for the public to continue to engage in a virtual public comment process, during a shortened regulatory, advertisement, public comment, and virtual hearing timeframe,” reads the statement.
The size of the amount qualifies as a substantial amendment to the City’s 2019-2023 Five Year Consolidated Plan and it’s 2019-2020 Annual Action Plan, because the City is allocating newly awarded funding to a previous CDBG program year as instructed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
