Car fire snarls traffic on I-75 in Ocala

A car fire backed up traffic on Interstate 75 in Marion County on Saturday afternoon.

On July 29, Marion County Fire Rescue crews were called by a driver reporting that his vehicle had caught fire.

The driver stated that he smelled gas coming from the vehicle, lost power, and eased to the right shoulder of the road.

Moments later, the vehicle caught fire. Traffic was slowed on southbound I-75, near mile marker 346, due to the fire.

Units from MCFR were dispatched to the location at 2:32 p.m. and arrived on scene at 2:46 p.m. Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line and began to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was brought under control and the roadway was cleared of obstruction.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.
