A 49-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon at an Ocala bank after escorting an 80-year-old woman there and apparently attempting to take her money.

Marlo Thomas went to the Wells Fargo bank at 1399 NE 25th Avenue with the elderly woman and tried to persuade the woman to obtain a $2,500 cash advance on a credit card, according to an arrest report from the Ocala Police Department.

When the older woman objected to the transaction, Thomas told bank personnel that the woman was her mother and has dementia, something the older woman denied.

When police arrived, the older woman said that Thomas had taken her to another bank earlier and had obtained another $2,500 cash transaction. That money was found in a car parked outside the bank.

Thomas was arrested on charges of grand theft and exploitation of an elderly person.
