Rose Alice Edelman

Rose Alice Edelman

Rose Alice (Pennington) Edelman, “Penny”, 88 of Ocala, Florida passed away while comforted by Hospice on April 4, 2018. She was born September 15, 1929 in Martinsville, IN to Jim and Susie (McDaniel) Pennington.

Penny was married to Melvin Edelman, “Mel”, on Jan 24, 1952 in Dayton, Ohio where they resided for 33 years. Penny initially worked as a bookkeeper at Dayton Dye Casting but later took on part time jobs while working as a full-time mother and homemaker taking care of her and Mel’s home and 2 children.

Penny was very active in the community and volunteered with various organizations her entire life, including the Oak Creek United Church of Christ where she held various positions. She also was involved with the PTA, Sorority Club, and Garden Club where she was president for 2 years working on projects to beautify the city.

After Mel’s retirement in 1985, Penny and Mel moved to Florida where Penny continued to volunteer in the community. She ran thrift shops in Ocala and Leesburg for charity, worked at election polling locations, helped others in their retirement community.
Penny was very proud of her grandchildren and stayed active in their lives. She never missed an important milestone or an opportunity to show how much she loved and enjoyed them.

Penny was always at the center of family and social circles because she loved the people in her life and she was fun to be around. In a crowd you could always find Penny by her distinctive laughter. Even into her mid 80’s Penny knew how to enjoy life. On the last cruise she went on with her family, it seemed like the entire ship knew her by the end of the trip, chanting as she energetically participated in contests, “Rose, Rose, Rose”. Her family and friends were blessed to have had her in their lives.

Rose Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years who recently passed away in January, 2018, and brother Eugene Pennington. Survivors include her son Gary and wife Amy Edelman of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; daughter Lynn and husband Steve Chojnacki of Ocala; grandchildren: Lee and husband Eric Pepple of Ft.
